Winning Connection flashcards were developed by Sandy Winning in consultation with professionals in the field of autism. Sandy managed a home-based intensive early intervention programme for her son who was diagnosed with autism. She was frustrated by the lack of good quality, appropriate learning resources for teaching children with autism. Sandy aimed to make the cards fun and interesting whilst adhering to sound learning principles. Her motivation for developing these resources was to provide parents in her position with unambiguous, carefully planned sets of flashcards that could easily be integrated into an intervention or teaching programme.

In the past, the responsibility for making these flashcards fell on parents and carers, therapists or family friends. Besides absorbing a great deal of time, the resulting cards were often ambiguous or of a compromised quality. Parents dealing with the emotions of an autism diagnosis and who are faced with the task of setting up an intervention programme, have also had the added burden of producing a vast quantity of these resources until now. Winning Connection flashcards are now found in many schools, centres and homes and have been embraced by parents and professionals world-wide.

After a highly successful launch of the flashcards, Winning Connection received many requests for a "how to" workbook to provide guidance in the most effective way to teach with the flashcards. An experienced clinical psychologist, who has worked in the field of autism for over a decade was approached and we are now happy to be able to offer an easy to use workbook with step-by-step teaching programmes available from our products section: Teaching children with autism and developmental delay using flashcards: a workbook for parents and teachers by Dr Felicity Adams.

In our products section we have also recently added two wonderful picture books. These books are superbly written and are an essential resource for parents or teachers who would like siblings or classmates of a child with autism, to better understand the nature of the disability and its' related behaviours.

In the near future we plan to increase our range of products to include the toys that would typically be used in direct teaching programmes as rewards - such as spinning tops and windup toys. Our goal is to alleviate some of the hardship involved in sourcing the appropriate resources for children with autism or similar difficulties.

Used by individuals, associations and schools.
